Advanced airway management is an essential skill for health care providers caring for injured or critically ill patients. Rapid sequence induction (RSI) is the most frequently-used and successful means of intubating the trachea. This course will teach a wide range of skills imperative for successful patient outcomes, including airway anatomy and physiology, basic airway techniques, basic airway devices, normal and abnormal respiratory patterns, indications and procedures for intubation, monitoring equipment, and indications, procedures, and medications used in rapid sequence intubation. Knowledge and competence in advanced airway management is of the highest importance in patient care; in fact, it saves lives every day!


Upon completion of this course, participants will be able to:

  2. List complications of the upper and lower airways
  3. Identify diseases and conditions that affect ventilation
  4. Name signs of respiratory distress
  5. Describe basic airway techniques
  6. Describe basic airway devices and techniques to utilize them
  7. Identify normal and abnormal respiratory patterns
  8. Describe how to assess an airway
  9. Describe indications and procedures for intubation
  10. Identify proper monitoring equipment for intubated patients
  11. Describe indications, procedures, and medications for Rapid Sequence Induction (RSI)
